Disclosure: This post for Fern Resort: all-inclusive family vacations made easy was sponsored by Fern Resort who hosted us for our weekend away but as always my opinion is my own.
Rest. Relaxation and to put it simply, bliss. This is how our entire weekend felt at Fern Resort in Ramara, Ontario. A short hour and 50-minute drive from our home in Mississauga to complete stress-free vacationing.
Fern makes it easy to sit back and enjoy your time there because you literally have zero to worry about. They don’t call it Ontario’s all-inclusive for no reason.
From check-in to check out we felt like everything was perfect. We were hoping to check-in at 4 but traffic was a little heavy leaving the city and we arrived just after 5. Checkin was easy and simple and we had our keys in about 5 minutes.
We headed to our rooms (we had adjoining rooms) and completely felt relaxed. I loved that Fern can accommodate my large family while keeping us close. With a door that stayed open between the two rooms, it was perfect. Not to mention 2 bathrooms.
Large family travel can be frustrating and hard for us. Not being able to stay at certain places, being split up and not all together at night because we don’t all fit in one room and finding things to do as a family of 7 where everyone can enjoy themselves is near on impossible. Not at Fern. Every day is filled with things to do for everyone from 0-100.
They have PlayVillage with children’s programming for children aged 0-7, with age-appropriate activities to fill their day. They have the junior program again with age-appropriate activities for ages 7-9, the youth program for the older kids aged 10-12 and a teen program for the older bunch 13-17. These programs are in place every day and they have a program for all seasons as Fern Resort is open year-round.
While your kids are off enjoying the programming, they also have an adult and family program as well daily. My kids joined a few of the programs during our stay and Oliver and Noah spent over 2 hours at the PlayVillage.
I was completely comfortable leaving them in the hands of the staff at Fern and when I went back to pick them up for dinner, I could hear the giggling and joy as soon as I arrived.
All three older boys enjoyed fishing off the dock and caught lots of fish. It was their first time and they all loved it. I think their favourite thing was spending hours in the heated outdoor pools.
The weather was so amazing the weekend we went, we didn’t need to use the indoor pool. Toby even enjoyed being in the pool as they have a small wading pool perfect for the little ones. With two large outdoor pools and a hot tub, my kids were in their element.
Now let’s talk about the food. Your stay at Fern Resort includes all your meals. We were there from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon and our stay included dinner on arrival, all meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday.
I loved that our meals when taken inside, were always at our same table every time. It meant that the kids always knew where we were going to be sitting during our stay. Our first dinner was incredible. Chris and I had steak as did my daughter and the boys all ate from the kid’s buffet. One of the things I loved about the food was the selection. The entire menu (minus breakfast) changed daily. I think everyone who has been to Fern Resort or has heard things about Fern Resort have heard about the rolls and honey. I will tell you everything you have ever heard is true! I even ordered a dozen with the honey pot to take home with us and lets just day they only lasted on evening at home.
We were able to try a different meal the entire time we were there. The kids were given a buffet for breakfast and dinner which made it easy to get them eating while we waited for ours. Lunch was either taken outside for a BBQ buffet or inside from the menu.
On Saturday we dined outside and enjoyed so many choices from the BBQ buffet from chicken sandwiches, pizza and burgers or hotdogs to a build your own taco station. They had salad and dessert as well. We were so full after every meal as the portions are really great too!
There was one thing I noticed while at Fern and it was the number of families that were visiting that included several generations. We spoke with a couple that had been visiting Fern since their children were little and were now bringing their grandkids. Several other guests had also been coming for years and I can totally see why. It was honestly the best vacation we have ever had.
My kids spent hours in the heated outdoor pools. I spent a few hours in them myself as well as the little wading pool with Toby. He loves the water and it was the perfect place for him to play in the water and we could sit with him the whole time while still being able to see the older kids in the bigger pool.
There are lifeguards for both of the outdoor pools. I felt completely comfortable with my kids in the pool without my in with them and I even let them all go with my daughter because I knew they would be safe.
