Finish School. Start Working. Meet Guy. Get Married. Have Kids. This is the perfect scenario for most women who want to settle down and have kids, however, this isn’t how it always works for most women. My journey into motherhood started mostly like this but having the kids part was far from perfect or easy. Most women don’t think about their fertility and when that time comes you just have sex and 9 months later out pops baby. My journey was 2 years in the making and involved testing, medication and eventually, my beautiful daughter was born.
This time was supposed to be exciting and happy and those 2 years were nothing like that. It was sad and frustrating and although in the end I was blessed with a baby, sometimes this isn’t always the case.
An important thing to remember when deciding to start trying for a baby is to choose a prenatal vitamin. Dr. Sony Sierra, Reproductive Endocrinologist and infertility expert at Trio Fertility, stated that it’s important to start taking this as much as 3 months before you start trying for a baby and make sure that it has at least 600mcg to 1mg of Folic Acid. I remember this was one of the things my specialist told me as well as my family doctor when we were trying and even after my first baby I continued to take them because I knew that I wanted to have more than one baby and it just made sense to stay on it. First Response Prenatal Multi-Vitamin has made taking a vitamin easier by making the first prenatal gummy vitamin in Canada. With 800mcg of folic acid to help reduce the risk of neural tube defects and a taste that’s easy for newly pregnant moms to take – no water needed! The naturally-sourced lemon-orange flavour is just right for even the worst morning sickness. I only wish that these were available when I was pregnant with my last because taking my prenatal was difficult at the best of times. It also contains essential nutrients women need from pre-conception all the way through to the post-natal period when a woman may be nursing.
There are so many misconceptions when it comes to conception and pregnancy that it’s hard to tell what’s fact or fiction. Did you know, according to Dr. Sony Sierra, Reproductive Endocrinologist and infertility expert at Trio Fertility, 1 in 6 couples struggle with fertility issues? Those numbers are pretty startling and I had no idea that they were that high until I was going through the process myself. I enlisted the help of reproductive endocrinologist for my last baby as well because after my loss, and with my age being an issue, I wanted to cover all my bases. Thankfully, I was able to get pregnant on my own at 38 and deliver a healthy baby boy, albeit 5 weeks early, at 39 without any issues. I was thankful for the First Response Advanced Digital Ovulation Test for getting pregnant for 2 of the last 3 times because for my last 3 pregnancies I was over 35 and I wanted to get pregnant as quickly as I could. I wanted to be sure we were making the most of the very small window a woman has every month (even in the ideal circumstances including the perfect reproductive age (21-35 ) conception is only 1 in 5 chance that you will conceive, this was also stated by Dr. Sony Sierra) and my age was a factor. Luckily, I got pregnant the second month of tracking my cycle for each of the pregnancies I used this method.
I will tell you that I should have invested in a First Response stock during those last 3 pregnancies because I peed on a stick like nobody’s business and I tested until I got my first ultrasound with all of them around 6 weeks. They actually were the only test I truly trusted from my first baby until my last mainly because it’s easy to read, no guessing whether or not there is a second line and every time I got a postive First Response test I was truly pregnant.
First Response definitely can help you from preconception through to your post-natal period and I am grateful that their products helped me and I am sure they will continue to help many couples on their journey into parenthood.
