I remember being a new mom and feeling overwhelmed thinking about all of the things I needed, things I wanted, and things everyone else said I required. It was impossible to figure out what we really needed compared to what people thought we should get. In the end, I chose the products for my baby registry that I knew were absolute must-haves, like the crib, the car seat, stroller and a few things I just wanted for baby.
I have teamed up with Huggies and Babies “R” Us to bring you a list of 10 things every new mom should add to their registry list, or just go out and purchase themselves. I agree 100% with all of the items, and being an experienced mom of 5, I have seen my fair share of products over the years.
Nursing Pillow: A must have for any mom-to-be. I would have been lost without mine. It helps to keep baby at the right height for breastfeeding, it also helped to alleviate some of my back pain from sitting nursing an infant. Additionally, it’s great for bottle-feeding moms or dads to keep baby close and bond while feeding.
Diaper Genie Elite: This is one product I have had in my home since my very first baby. It is the perfect solution for taking care of all those dirty diapers while leaving the room, stink-free. Diaper Genie Refill bags feature 7-layers that work together to help lock-in diaper odours & messes. Each refill hold up to 270 newborn diapers, which means fewer trips to the trash bin.
Breastfeeding Scarf: A trendy scarf transforms to a soft, breathable nursing cover. YES, please. I never really used a cover while nursing but I totally would have used something like this had I even known about it. Nursing can be difficult for any new mom but trying to latch a newborn while fighting with a cover shouldn’t be part of that.
Halo Sleep Sack: I absolutely loved this item. It’s a great way to swaddle baby and keep them warm without the risk of using blankets that can cover baby’s face. This one allows you to swaddle baby with their arms in or out which is great as newborns do tend to startle themselves awake. Swaddling helps prevent this.
Receiving Blankets: Oh my gosh, if there is one thing that every mom-to-be should have on their registry, it’s receiving blankets. I used these for everything from swaddling to burp/spit-up cloths. I have about 75 in my house right now and when my little man was a newborn, I probably used close to 4 or 5 a day.
Sophie, The Giraffe: This toy has been one of my favourites for as long as I have been a mom. Sophie is the cutest teething giraffe you have ever seen and all of my kids have loved her. We have had 3 over the years as she got old, dirty and then lost, but I am so glad she made this list.
Bottles: It’s always good to have a few of these on hand even if you intend on exclusively breastfeeding. Sometimes it’s nice to pump and give a feeding away to dad so you can have a shower or just get a few minutes to yourself and if you don’t breastfeed then you will have some bottles on hand.
Handy Hook (Mom Hook): Lifesaver. When you are out shopping and you just don’t have enough room in the basket of the stroller, or your hands are full, this hook can help. It will carry so much stuff. When my husband was working weekends, my youngest and I would go out shopping and this hook was perfect for holding all of our bags. I also used it as a place for my toddler to hold on to while we were out in public and that is still what he holds when we are out and he does it without me even telling him.
Diapers are important when you have a new little one as well. I have been using Huggies on my kids for last 7 years. Huggies Little Snugglers are designed with baby’s new skin in mind, to help keep them clean and their skin healthy. Using them with the Huggies Natural Care wipes is the perfect combination. I will only use the Huggies Natural Care wipes now and have been since Oliver was about 5 months old. He developed an allergy to wet wipes when he was only 2 months old, and when his diaper rash had finally cleared up, Natural Care wipes were the only ones we tried so now I won’t use any other brand.
This is not an exhaustive list of this but I do believe that these 10 items should be on every registry for every mom-to-be whether it’s your first or your fifth.
