So I know leaving travel ideas/plans until the last minute isn’t the best idea, however, I had to work around schedules and budget. Our original plan was to leave Thursday (tomorrow) and come back Sunday night/Monday morning. The original road trip was to drive to Illinois so my husband could visit a friend, then drive over to Michigan and visit my kids’ aunt and then stop in Sarnia on the way back home and visit with my dear friend Jo-anne. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, we weren’t able to do this trip so I have been trying to plan something else for us to do for those days. But the lack of accommodations and places for us to stay has been difficult and frustrating.
It has been hell. I have searched lots of different destinations and I can’t find anything in any of the areas that I want to visit or see. I totally understand that it’s summer and lots of people of pre-booked holidays but even in places that had accommodations for smaller families (I checked), there was nothing I could find for us. I tried Tobermory, Manitoulin, Windsor, Sarnia among others just to find a place we could spend the night and do some fun stuff as a family.
I have to thank a wonderful friend who steered me in the right direction and helped me find a wonderful cottage to go to for the weekend. I plan to be off the grid (mostly) from Thursday until Sunday. I am so looking forward to hanging out with my family and truly spending our first ever real holiday together. I plan on writing in my journal so that I have lots to write about when I get back but until Sunday, I hope to be online very little. I will apologize now for lack of posting and I will see you all again next week!
Here’s to unplugging and getting some serious family bonding time in with lots of s’mores and bug spray!
