Adult Game Night
I don’t know about you but I remember having some epic game nights with my friends before we all got married and had children. I am not sure when it stopped but I am sure that having children was one of the reasons as was growing up, maturing and starting careers. Some of my favourite games over the years have been Uno, Mad Gab and Balderdash. We also played quite a few card games and most nights ended up laughing so hard we all had tears in our eyes. I miss those nights and I think it’s about time that I bring it back. The kids can play upstairs or in their playroom in the basement and we could totally do an adult game night. I could even suggest that we take turns with our friends for game night and we hire a sitter and go out for the night and then switch which house we go to. Here are some other great tips from Mattel to get your adult game night off to a great start.
Prepare Your Space
Plan ahead for which space you would like to use for your game night. Be sure it includes plenty of seating, a large flat surface for the game and plenty of end tables for guests to place refreshments on. Other things to remember when planning ahead include coasters to protect your furniture, enough pillows so everyone is comfortable and even a couple of blankets – it is fall after all. These small considerations will make everyone feel welcome in your home.
Mix up Your Guests
Don’t be afraid to invite a cross-section of people you know. Invite new or old friends, colleagues and even family to your next game night. While they might not all know each other in advance, games are always a great ice breaker and will bring everyone together. Also, for more interpretive games such as Apples to Apples® Freestyle, a group of different personalities will add a lot of fun and diversity to the game.
Pick the Games Ahead of Time
Planning ahead helps everyone get in the right mood. From Uno to Pictionary, pick the games ahead of time and let your guests get excited in advance. You can also choose to center your games around a fun theme and then bring that theme to life through costumes, food and beverage and decor.
Make it Potluck
Often the most stressful part of planning an event is preparing the food and drink. To alleviate that stress and focus your energy on the fun, make it a potluck. Invite guests to bring a side dish or drink for everyone to share. You’ll have an amazing meal without the stress and mess of cooking it all yourself. While planning activities for your littlest ones is important, it’s also important to ensure that you’re getting the fun and social time you need to relax and unwind with friends. An adult game night is the perfect way to kick-back with friends without having to venture out too far.
Although I haven’t played Apples to Apples Freestyle with adults, it was a heck of a lot of fun with the kids. I especially like making up stuff to fit into the sentence that makes the kids giggle. We had such a fun time playing this game and now you can too! I am giving away 3 copies of Apples to Apples Freestyle to 3 of my readers! Enter below!
