I always look at the new school year as a new year of sorts. I know that each year starts in January but for us, I think it truly starts is September. It’s almost like the summer hits a reset button for me and the kids and then September starts it all over again. There are new challenges and new adventures to be had by everyone once school starts again.
The last few years have been rough for my middle guy and finally yesterday he came home happy and said he had a great day. This is huge for us as 2 years ago he was being bullied and didn’t tell anyone until it was too late, last year they switched him to a different class at reorganization time but then I forced them to switch him back as he has some health issues that started manifesting themselves as he got upset and stressed. This year he is happy already and this is a great sign, I can only hope that this happiness continues and that they don’t switch him again at reorganization and throw him into a downward spiral again.
My youngest who I think can use a little bit of extra help and who I honestly think should maybe be repeating grade 1 has an amazing teacher who will make sure he gets just that. I only spoke with her briefly yesterday but I already know that she is going to be exactly what he needs.
My daughter had a great day yesterday as well. It was her first day at a new school as she has entered the extended French program which starts in grade 7. She is very good at French and this was a great option for her to be able to continue learning the language as being bilingual is a definitely plus in today’s highly competitive job market. The fact that she excels at it, it a bonus. The only downside is that she now has to be on a bus before 8 a.m. to travel quite a distance to school and there is no way I can just run and drop something off should she forget it.
All in all yesterday was a great day, even the baby napped at a decent hour and was in bed by 10!
How did your first day of school with the kids go?
