Last night was my daughter’s recital. She has been taking private singing lessons at MF Music School in Lorne Park in Mississauga for almost 2 years now and although she has had several different teachers since she started there she has come along nicely and improved on her already awesome singing ability. She has done several recitals at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga already but this one really touched me because of something she did right before she performed.
There were about 20 children perfoming, some were singing, some playing guitar and others were playing the piano. Just before it was my daughter’s turn to perform, another little girl the same age as her went up for her turn. She was very nervous and tried to sing her song but nerves got the better of her and she just couldn’t do it and burst into tears. My daughter sat next to her and from where I was sitting, I could tell that she was doing her best to comfort this other little girl. When it finally came her turn to sing, her teacher was about to announce her and say a little something about her, when Jocelyn asked if she could say something first.
She calmly spoke in the mic and said “Jane*, I was really nervous my first time coming up here to sing and I had trouble getting through my first song too but just remember that you can do anything and don’t let anyone tell you any different, I think you are great”. I cried, Jane’s mother cried and there were a few other mother’s with tears in their eyes too. I have never been more proud of my daughter than I was right then. All those times as a mom you think about whether you are raising them right or doing a good job and then something like this happens and you know beyond a doubt, that they are going to be just fine and you have raised one great little kid.
Her performance was also amazing as always and you can watch it below.
