I have been carrying a diaper bag or some form of one for a long time. I can’t remember the last time I was able to take my purse out as it just won’t hold all of things I need when I have bay out and about. So what are some essentials for the perfect outing, Disney Baby and I have 8 essentials you should never leave home without.
Diapers, diapers and oh wait, more diapers – If you are a new mom or a seasoned veteran mom like myself, you can and will never have enough diapers some days. Try to bring at least 1 for every hour you are out (I suggest 2-3 for the newborns). I remember getting caught short and trust me, that is not something you want to be.
Wipes – I carry wipes in a ziploc baggie or a small on-the-go wipe container and I use them for everything from diaper changes to cleaning my older ones hands and faces. I also carry 2 baby washcloths as my little guy has a wipe allergy so I can’t use them very often.
Diaper Rash Cream – Keep a small size of your favourite diaper rash cream with you. You can usually purchase smaller, diaper bag size containers of most diaper rash cream. If not, you can always transfer some from the bigger bottle to a throw away small container.
Changing Pad – (or if you are like me and accidentally forget to pick it back up after you use it, a burp cloth) which many diapers bags come with like the mickey mouse one pictured above.
Extra Clothing – When babies are new, trust me when I say, if you put them in a gorgeous little outfit that you think is just the cutest thing ever, they will poop/pee through everything at the most inopportune time possible. Then you change them and low and behold they can do it again. Oh the joys of parenting! All kidding aside, I tend to err on the side of caution and over-pack. If we are going out for an entire day, I will usually pack 3-4 outfits including at least one pair of sleepers. Even now, my son is 13 months old and I still have 2 extra outfits for him. Disney baby has plenty to offer like these here.
Snacks – Now that my little man is getting bigger, I bring snacks along as they can sometimes mean the difference between happy baby and grumpy baby. My little man doesn’t travel well, so having something he can snack on helps the trip just a little. Extra bottles of breastmilk, formula or milk as baby gets older can be kept in these really cute minnie bottles (they also come in mickey mouse). My little man loves his mickey mouse learner cup (pictured below in minnie mouse) and we never leave home without it. Don’t forget to bring snacks along for mom and older siblings too.
Creature Comforts – Receiving blankets and pacifiers (like the cute pooh one above), if baby uses one, are always a smart thing to bring along as well as receiving blankets for those times baby will inevitably spit up all over your nice clean shirt. I usually pack 3-4 receiving blankets (like the winnie the pooh ones above) for a new baby and I still pack one for my little man now.
Tons of Toys – My sister was actually really smart about this. She had two separate diaper bags, an older one full of baby toys and play items and the other with all of her baby essentials. I am not sure why I never did it but I may have to remember to the next time we go anywhere. Disney baby hos lots of fun toys for baby, you can check out some of their products here.
Some of my must have essentials include all of the above and baby nail clippers, q-tips and kleenex, you can never have enough kleenex and I am usually forever looking for one, so now I carry a small pack in the diaper bag.
What are some of your must have diaper bag essentials?
