I’m not even sure I could have imagined this. I do know that I have never felt happier or more fulfilled than I do right now. Blogging started as a way to tell my story and connect with others. I was spending so much time sitting on my butt breastfeeding my extremely needy baby, I figured I could find something more constructive to do.
So I started this journey by getting a twitter account. I had no idea what twitter was about nor what it could do for me. I started following a few people here or there and from that things exploded. I found my first three blogs that I though were absolutely amazing. Sarah from Journeys of the Zoo and Kyla from Mommysweird, both of whom make me laugh and Live By Surprise, who if you didn’t know any better would, think that she and I married and divorced the same man. She was kind enough to guest post on my blog here as well as allow me to guest post on hers here. After spending hours surfing the net and reading these blogs and many others, I felt like it was something I could do.
This is how 4 The Love of Mommy was born. I love writing my blog and I had no idea the amazing things that could come from it. About 3 months after starting my blog, I found out about Blissdom Canada. I read articles about it, saw posts from other bloggers about it and I knew that I had to be there. If I wanted my my little blog that I loved so much doing to be so much more for me and really go places, Blissdom is where it is at.
For a few months I was trying to figure out how I was going to make it work, how could I come up with the money I needed to afford the ticket. Thankfully, I live about 15 minutes away from the venue so all I needed was the ticket. No matter what I did, with 4 kids, 1 income and little else, I was not going to get the coveted ticket. I entered the instagram #BlissPhotoADay contest and I joined in on the wonderful twitter party action. I listened, asked questions and interacted with some great people and at the end of the party, the big prize, the Blissdom ticket, was mine. I cried a little and was so excited and happy all at the same time.
So now, with less than a month to go, I am nervous and excited to meet so many bloggers and people I admire including 2 of my 3 favourite bloggers, Sarah and Kyla. So what does a newbie to Blissdom do? You read, research and listen. I have read post after post about past Blissdom conferences. What to wear, what to expect, what you need and you know what I learned?
I learned that Blissdom is a community. A community of like minded individuals that meet to share, inspire and socialize. Just this week I also registered my youngest one for #CampBliss, the free childcare services that are available to all attending Blissdom and I was really nervous about it, as he is still breastfed, won’t take a bottle and pretty much has never stayed with anyone but me, but once again the community made me feel good about it. Letting me know that they are very baby friendly and that I can even have him in the sessions with me. Actually one person told me she always has arms for babies (I am going to hold her to that) and I feel so much more comfortable with my decision to bring him and the whole conference in general.
Most importantly what I learned, the most important piece was this; I just need me because that is how all of this started, and that is who is registered to attend and new clothes and shoes aren’t going to make a difference. So with that I am heading to my first of I am sure, many Blissdom conferences. Just me!
