First before I start, I want to apologize for the state that the box of OB Tampons is in the picture. I thought they were safe and up high enough but no, my youngest who in his infinite wisdom thought that this box would be perfect for teething, got a hold of them and started chewing and almost made it through to the product before I caught him and stopped him but not before he trashed the box.
So now that’s out of the way, let me begin by stating the inevitable. If you are a woman, it will come. Either for the very first time (which is soon for my only daughter, scary but for another post) or every stinking month for the last, god knows how many years. If any of you are like me it comes in as a force to be reckoned with (minus the horrible cramps etc. that some women experience) and goes out like a lamb about 6 days later.
Since having my last baby, girls I am not going to lie to you, it has been freaking brutal. So smart me decided to get Mirena put in because the doc said it would make my bleeding lighter (seriously some months I swear it would leave some people needing a transfusion, it has been that heavy) and eventually it would get to the point that I wouldn’t bleed at all. OMG, great, this contraption is perfect, kill two birds with one proverbial stone since neither myself nor my hubby wanted to have surgery and we didn’t want anymore kids (I have since had a change of heart in this department but that is for another post). Fast forward 9 months since this damn thing has been in and I am still bleeding on and off. 9 freaking months! So when I was offered the chance to try the new O.B. tampons, I literally jumped at the chance.
Now I have never been much of a tampon girl even when I was younger and before kids unless I had to for swimming purposes. One thing I was not really sold on was the “no-applicator” part, I mean waste not want not but sticking that thing up there with no help well, I just wasn’t sold but I will try anything once and hell I have had 4 kids so really how hard could it be?
Actually, it was really easy. Almost like it had an applicator only you use your finger to insert it which is actually easier than an applicator as your finger can follow the natural curve of your vagina unlike an applicator. Now I can’t leave them in for very long, I never have been able to, but I did use one for about 5 hours and I was completely confident enough to wear my new white capris and not worry about leaking. If you are looking for a tampon that you can rely on for comfort and protection, look no further, O.B. will most certainly do the job.
They may look small, but they are mighty! The FLUIDLOCK® grooves draw fluid into the centre core, all while expanding to fit your unique shape. This gives you up to eight hours of amazing protection. Your flow level will determine how often you should change your tampon and what absorbency you should use. You should use a tampon with the lowest absorbency to meet your needs.
That could not be more true and well, me being me, decided to test it out with a little water and find out exactly how much these puppies could hold before giving up the ghost and I was super impressed. They held a whopping 17ml of water (and I am even sure they could have held more) and since the average period is anywhere from 10-80ml these little tampons will definitely be able to handle the tough job. There are also four, count ’em, four different absorbency levels. Here’s when you should use each: o.b. ® Regular is best for first-time non-applicator tampon users or for women with light to moderate flow, o.b. ® Super is best for moderate flow, o.b. ® Super Plus has you covered during a heavier flow and o.b. ® Ultra has you covered during your heaviest flow.
I am also very happy about the fact that they are super earth friendly in the way they have little to no waste since they have no applicator and they are really tiny that you can pretty much put them anywhere, even in that tiny no good for anything but lip-gloss pocket, in the front of your favourite pair of jeans.
